The fact remains that steel buildings are in fact typically a lot cheaper to construct than similar structures made out of other materials. In addition, steel buildings are also manufactured to be much more precise and easy to build, and they offer the further advantages of being largely immune to the effects of insect infestation. They are also able to withstand the effects of a fire much better than structures constructed out of other types of materials. If your impression of steel buildings is of a forbidding structure that looks like it belongs to the set of a sci fi movie, you may have to adjust your thinking a bit. While that may have been the case years ago, a lot of today's steel buildings really don't look that much different from "typical" buildings.
