No one can argue that metal buildings are quite versatile. During World War II, the Navy Seabees developed metal buildings to be used as lightweight housing and storage units that could be raised, torn down and transported quickly in the battlefield. These Quonset huts (as the metal buildings came to be known) were modeled after and modified from the original British Nissen hut semi cylindrical design with the addition of insulation, wooden linings and floors.
